Hubtel IT highlights growing Shadow AI risk in London Daily News
We were recently featured in London Daily News, discussing the growing use of AI in the workplace and why businesses need to think carefully about how these tools are being used.
The article looks at the rise of Shadow AI, where employees use AI tools for work without the business necessarily having visibility over which platforms are being used, what information is being shared or how AI-generated outputs are being checked.
Speaking to London Daily News, Neil Bayliss, Director at Hubtel IT, explained that the biggest risk isn't AI itself, but allowing it to be used without clear policies, security controls or accountability.
It's an issue that's becoming increasingly important as AI adoption grows. Office for National Statistics figures referenced in the article show that 55% of employees report using AI for work or education, while 35% of businesses with 10 or more employees report using at least one AI technology.
That gap highlights an important challenge for businesses. Employees can quickly start using AI to help with emails, documents, data and everyday tasks, but without the right governance in place, organisations can lose visibility over where business or customer information is being shared.
The answer isn't to stop people using AI. Businesses need to create a clear and practical framework around it, including which tools are approved, what information can be used, how outputs should be checked and who remains accountable for decisions involving AI.
With those foundations in place, businesses can take advantage of AI while maintaining appropriate control over their data, security and governance.
