Our Accreditations:

How Hubtel can help

Keep what’s yours safe and secure

Cyber Essentials is an IASME standard that is backed by the Government and the National Cyber Security Centre. The scheme was launched in 2014 as a means to offer protection for organisations of all sizes against the growing threat of cyber attacks and cyber crime. Cyber Essentials enables organisations to implement basic security measures that will protect against cyber crime and achieving Cyber Essentials status demonstrates your commitment to cyber security.

It’s believed that around 80% of cyber crime could have been prevented with just basic security measures in place and with cyber crime on the increase, now would be a good time for you to consider how effective your IT would be against such an attack on your business. Cyber crime can be either sophisticated or quite basic, but the perpetrators behind the crime will always rely on you having your guard down. Our advise is to keep your guard up at all times and work on the assumption that you will, at some point, be a target for cyber crime.

The Cyber Essentials process isn’t overly complicated but it will give you a clear picture of your organisation’s cyber security levels. It will help you identify any gaps and remedy them as soon as possible. It’s also a unique selling point – do your competitors comply with Cyber Essentials and guarantee that personal data is held securely? Some Government contracts require Cyber Essentials certification before contracts are awarded and it’s our belief that this framework will eventually become more widely adopted in the private sector as organisations look to fortify their security measures.

I’ve heard I can get broadband without having to pay line rental?

That’s right. As technology advances it’s now possible to get a broadband connection without the line rental element, which means you only pay for the broadband and not the line.

This type of broadband is called SoGEA and it’s important to remember that it’s a data connection only. So, you won’t be able to make telephone calls in the same way but it will still be possible once you’ve upgraded your hardware to the latest tech.

A more in-depth explanation about SoGEA can be found on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fF-RUvos4c and in our news article: https://hubtelit.co.uk/sogeabroadband/

Are BT getting rid of the telephone lines?

Yes. By 2025 the traditional telephone lines that were installed in the 1980s will cease to exist. As more people use data rather than voice and along with the advances in technology, the old telephone lines are no longer fit for purpose.

Ultimately this will be cheaper for the end user as:

  • calls over the internet are usually free
  • less hardware is needed, so less to buy and maintain
  • any faults on the line can be diagnosed and fixed quicker

How do I move my telephone system from ISDN to the Cloud?

If your existing telephone system is still relatively new then it’s likely that it will be compatible with Cloud based technology. In that case, we simply port your existing telephone numbers into the Cloud and program your hardware to adapt.

Older telephone systems will need to be replaced before moving to the Cloud. Given the long term efficiencies of Cloud based telephony, replacing your system sooner rather than later needn’t be a barrier to switching.

What makes a good password?

Passwords should never contact personal information or be so predictable they can be guessed. Good passwords are at least 14 character long and contain a mix of lowercase, uppercase and punctuation. Stay away from single words and opt for phrases instead.

Cyber security should be at the heart of your IT set up and your password is your first line of defence against hackers. Don’t be tempted to go for something just because it’s easy to remember – cyber crime is not going away.

How often should I replace my computer?

General rule of thumb is every 4 years, but that is subject to your usage and specification of the computer to start with.

Businesses who are hardware heavy should consider a Rolling Replacement Plan so that the cost and installations can be managed efficiently.
